Yang Style Tai Chi 24 Form

The Yang Style Tai Chi 24 Form was created in China in the 1950s to make traditional Yang-style Tai Chi more accessible to the public. Developed from the longer Yang family form, it preserves the essential principles of Tai Chi while offering a shorter and easier sequence suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners.

The 24 Form maintains the heart of traditional Tai Chi through mindful movement, relaxed posture, coordinated breathing, and the cultivation of internal energy, or qi. Rooted in the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine, the practice supports harmony between body and mind while encouraging balance, focus, and inner calm.

Practiced through 24 slow, flowing movements, the form may help improve flexibility, coordination, posture, strength,
and overall wellbeing. Often described as a moving meditation, it offers a gentle yet effective way to reduce stress, increase body awareness, and support physical and emotional health. The 24 Form is widely practiced for relaxation  and mindful movement rather than martial application. Its gentle, low-impact nature makes it suitable for people of all ages and experience levels.

The sequence begins with gentle opening movements and flows through a series of smooth, connected postures that cultivate balance, coordination, mindful breathing, and focused awareness. Performed in a continuous and relaxed manner, the form encourages harmony between body and mind while developing fluidity, stability, and inner calm.

Today, the Yang Style 24 Form remains one of the most widely practiced Tai Chi forms in the world and is commonly taught in wellness programs, community classes, and traditional Tai Chi schools as an accessible introduction to the foundations
of Tai Chi practice.
